Ryan Helsley Earns Four-Out Save Monday
2 years agoSt. Louis Cardinals closer Ryan Helsley picked up his fourth save of the season in Monday's 3-1 win over the Cubs. Helsley came on to pitch the bottom of the eighth inning up by two with two outs and no one on, getting the final out on a fly-out. He stayed on to pitch the ninth, delivering a 1-2-3 inning with no strikeouts. The 28-year-old has pitched well overall but has not been nearly as solid as he was last season. He has now converted four of seven save opportunities with a 3.14 ERA, 10.67 K/9 rate, and 3.14 BB/9 rate. However, he should still have the upper hand on Giovanny Gallegos as long as he can take steps in the positive direction.
