Ryan Helsley Bounces Back Saturday, Secures First Save In 2023
2 years agoSt. Louis Cardinals right-hander Ryan Helsley allowed two hits while striking out two across 1 2/3 innings to earn the save in Saturday's 4-1 win over the Toronto Blue Jays. He entered the eighth inning with runners on first and second base. The 28-year-old recorded two outs and escaped the eighth-inning jam. During the ninth frame, he allowed hits to Kevin Kiermaier and Bo Bichette before getting Daulton Varsho to pop out to seal the Cardinals' victory. It was his first save of the season. Helsley bounced back on Saturday after blowing the save and taking the loss on Thursday after allowing two runs on two hits and one walk in the Opening Day loss to the Blue Jays. Helsley is the Cardinals' primary closer and is a must-start in all league formats.
