Ryan Helsley Blows Save Chance On Wednesday
2 years agoSt. Louis Cardinals relief pitcher Ryan Helsley was charged with his third blown save and first loss of the year on Wednesday. He entered Wednesday's game against the Miami Marlins in the ninth inning with the Cardinals leading 3-2. He went on to give up a game-winning, two-run home run to Marlins outfielder Avisail Garcia. His final line: one inning, two hits, one walk, two earned runs and three strikeouts. He is now 6-for-9 on save chances this year, which isn't a great conversion rate, but he owns a stellar 0.88 ERA and 0.65 WHIP. He's been the team's primary closer lately and should remain in that role, but Giovanny Gallegos is still in the picture as well. Gallegos is 9-for-13 in save opportunities with his most recent blown save coming this past Saturday.
