Ryan Blaney’s Playoffs Likely Over After Disqualification
1 year agoAfter Ryan Blaney was disqualified for his team failing to meet NASCAR's specification for damper height, he was stripped of his sixth-place finish. Furthermore, he lost the eight stage points he originally earned. That dropped him 56 points below the playoff cutline to make the Championship 4 at Phoenix. Since it would be almost impossible for him to gain the points he needs on four different drivers over the next two races, he is essentially eliminated from the playoffs unless he earns a win. Since Team Penske has not had winning speed on intermediates this season, Blaney winning at Homestead is unlikely, which would require a win at Martinsville. It's possible he could win there, but Blaney will not be a favorite.
