Ryan Blaney Scores Front Row Start At Dover
8 months agoFor this week's Wurth 400 at Dover Motor Speedway, Ryan Blaney scored a starting position of second. This will be Blaney's first front row start at Dover and his second overall of the year. Historically, DMS is not one of Blaney's strongest tracks, as he only has three top-10 finishes in 13 Cup Series starts at the site. However, Blaney's last start at the "Monster Mile" in 2023 resulted in his first-ever top-5 finish of third. After 10 races this season, Blaney remains the highest Ford driver in the regular season standings (seventh) with four top-5 finishes. In practice, Blaney was the fastest driver in the single lap and five-consecutive lap average categories, showcasing that he should be highly competitive from the start. Although his Dover history indicates that Blaney is an unfavorable DFS pick, the driver of the No. 12 Team Penske Ford is one of the fastest overall drivers on speed regardless of track type this year. Blaney's starting position provides almost no Place Differential upside, but he works best as a tournament play capable of leading laps early and competing for the win.
