Royce Lewis Suffers Torn ACL In Right Knee
4 years agoMinnesota Twins shortstop and top prospect Royce Lewis (knee) has suffered a torn ACL in his right knee, reports Do-Hyoung Park of MLB.com. Lewis had felt some soreness in the knee while training at his home in Texas, but the pain worsened when he recently slipped on some ice. It's a tough break for MLB.com's number-17 ranked prospect, who will undergo surgery on Friday and miss the next nine to 12 months for rehab and recovery. Lewis was thought to be close to major-league ready, though he has yet to log more than 150 at-bats above high-A ball and hasn't played since 2019 in the Arizona Fall League, where he produced a .975 OPS in 22 games. When fully recovered, Lewis will likely resume playing at the Double-A level to get more reps.
