Royals Trade For Amir Garrett Wednesday
3 years agoThe Kansas City Royals acquired left-handed reliever Amir Garrett from the Cincinnati Reds on Wednesday in exchange for left-hander Mike Minor and cash. Garrett had seven saves for the Reds in 2021, but he also had a rough 6.04 ERA and 1.57 WHIP while striking out 61 and walking 29 in 47 2/3 innings over 63 relief appearances. The 29-year-old is an upside arm out of the bullpen, but until he can put it all together consistently, he won't have a ton of fantasy appeal. With that said, in Kansas City's bullpen -- Scott Barlow is currently projected as the closer -- Garrett should have more opportunities in high-leverage, late-inning spots. And the southpaw's 26.8% strikeout rate could come in handy in deeper leagues.
