2 years agoThe Kansas City Royals selected outfielder Gavin Cross with the ninth overall pick in the 2022 MLB draft. Cross was a standout for the Team USA collegiate baseball squad last summer, then he went on to have a fantastic junior year at Virginia Tech this past season. Over 57 games with the Hokies, he slashed .328/.411/.660 with 17 homers, 12 stolen bases, 50 RBI and 70 runs. The 6'3" 21-year-old has some plate discipline concerns, but he's improved upon both his strikeout rate and walk rate over the past few years. While he's played center field in college, he's more likely to find a home as a corner infielder in the majors.--Andrew Ericksen - RotoBaller
