Royals In Search Of A Closer
10 months agoThe Kansas City Royals are in search of a high-leverage pitcher to close out games for the club in the 2024 season. With the free-agent market devoid of quality closing options, the Royals have turned to the trade market to address their need. The club has signed relievers Will Smith and Chris Stratton this offseason and also added Nick Anderson via a trade from the Braves. Seven different pitchers recorded at least one save for the club in 2023 led by Scott Barlow (13) who they traded to the Padres at the trade deadline. The club also dealt a high-leverage reliever in Aroldis Chapman to the eventual World Series-winning Texas Rangers last season. Emmanuel Clase and Kenley Jansen are two established closers who have been in the rumor mill but prospect capital (Clase) and cost restraints (Jansen) will likely prevent the Royals from acquiring either of those names.
