Rowan Wick Not Officially Tabbed Cubs’ Closer
4 years agoManager David Ross made it clear prior to Friday’s contest against Milwaukee: right-hander Rowan Wick is not his only ninth-inning option. Wick’s three saves lead the Cubs at this point, but Ross was succinct, saying, “I haven’t named anybody” to the closer’s gig. The most likely option to supplant Wick would be Craig Kimbrel, although it appears that until he reels off multiple appearances of dominant work, he won’t be getting his role back. Jeremy Jeffress and Kyle Ryan have also earned saves and could continue to make up a collaborative closer’s effort moving forward. Aggressive owners can nab Wick, but they’ll do so knowing that he isn’t locked in to receive all of the save chances.
