Ross Chastain Is Great At Phoenix
2 weeks agoRoss Chastain qualified third for this weekend's NASCAR Cup Series Championship Race at Phoenix Raceway, and the Trackhouse Racing driver should easily be able to turn that into another good finish in the desert on Sunday. In addition to winning the finale race here last season, Chastain has finished sixth or better in four of the five Next Gen races at this track, with the only exception being his 24th-place effort in 2023 (in the race where him and Hamlin tangled on the final restart, which ruined both of their days). In practice at Phoenix this weekend, the No. 1 Chevrolet was nothing special, but Chastain did rank eighth-fastest in 20-lap average. With his good qualifying effort, strong track history, and a couple of race day adjustments, Chastain should definitely be able to be a top-five contender at Phoenix on Sunday. He's a driver to consider in DFS tournaments this weekend, particularly as a pivot off of pole sitter, Martin Truex Jr. It's worth noting that only one driver has a better average running position than Chastain at Phoenix in the Next Gen era, and that is Championship favorite, Ryan Blaney.
