Ronny Mauricio Not Being Called Up Tuesday
1 year agoSeveral New York Mets minor-leaguers are at the ready at the team's hotel in Kansas City on trade-deadline day on Tuesday, potentially waiting to take the place of players they expect to move, but shortstop prospect Ronny Mauricio isn't one of them. The Mets have already traded starting pitchers Max Scherzer and outfielder Mark Canha, but they might not be done dealing at the deadline. Mauricio is the team's No. 3 prospect, per MLB Pipeline, but he apparently isn't close to making his major-league debut. The 22-year-old switch-hitting Dominican is hitting a strong .293/.343/.492 with an .835 OPS, 16 home runs, 56 RBI, 16 stolen bases and 59 runs scored in 92 games at Triple-A Syracuse. Mauricio could end up making his MLB debut later this year, however, and he could have immediate fantasy appeal given his power/speed combination at a premium position.
