7 years agoTexas Rangers first baseman Ronald Guzman nailed a clutch, game-tying home run in the top of the 8th inning off of Astros' reliever Brad Peacock for his first career long ball. Guzman also brought in Jurickson Profar for the game-winning run in the top of the 10th with a comebacker to the mound that took a hard bounce, leaving Astros defenders with no play to make. Guzman showed a solid approach in his five at-bats, and has now registered three hits in his first two games. If he displays more power than he has shown during his minor league days, he will become a more interesting fantasy option. For now, deep leagues may want to take a flier, especially if he continues to produce. His playing time will take a steep drop once players start returning from injury and Willie Calhoun is brought up, as Joey Gallo will return to first, but the Rangers do not boast the kind of depth that would keep a hot bat out of the lineup.--Sean Scampton

2 years agoSan Francisco Giants infielder/pitcher Ronald Guzman (forearm) was pulled out of Sunday's Cactus League matchup due to injury. Guzman threw a wild pitch to the backstop and immediately bent down in pain afterwards. Manager Gabe Kapler mentioned that Guzman felt something in his forearm on the final pitch that he threw. The expectation is that the organization is going to have Guzman undergo further testing. Hopefully, this injury is minor, but fantasy managers will have to check back for more updates on his status.--Andy Webb - RotoBaller

2 years agoThe San Francisco Giants are listing Ronald Guzman as an infielder and left-handed pitcher. Guzman joined the Giants on a minor-league deal this offseason after playing in only three major-league games for the New York Yankees in 2022. He appeared in one game as a reliever at Triple-A Scranton/Wilkes-Barre last year and can hit the high-90s with his fastball. It will give the 28-year-old another avenue in order to stick with the big-league team in 2023, but he won't be on anyone's fantasy radar to begin the season. Guzman has played in only 10 big-league games the last two years and holds a .225/.302/.410 career slash line with a .712 OPS, 31 home runs and 104 RBI in five major-league seasons (four with the Texas Rangers).--Keith Hernandez - RotoBaller

2 years agoThe San Francisco Giants signed free-agent first baseman Ronald Guzman to a minor-league deal on Thursday. Guzman spent the first four years of his major-league career with the Texas Rangers, slashing .227/.304/.414 with a .718 OPS, 31 home runs, 104 RBI, 91 runs scored and three stolen bases in 243 games played. He ended up playing in only three games with the New York Yankees in 2022, going hitless in six at-bats with five strikeouts. The 28-year-old will provide the Giants with some depth at the first base position after veteran slugger Brandon Belt left in free agency this offseason.--Keith Hernandez - RotoBaller

3 years agoThe New York Yankees signed free-agent first baseman Ronald Guzman (knee) to a minor-league deal that includes an invitation to Spring Training. He was limited to just seven games last season after suffering a meniscus tear in his right knee in April. The 27-year-old has flashed power with 31 home runs in 737 at-bats over four major-league seasons. The former Texas Ranger is expected to be fully recovered from his knee injury heading into Spring Training. Guzman will have a fresh start in New York, but with no guaranteed full-time role, isn't on the fantasy radar in 2022 even if he makes the big league roster.--Brad Camara - RotoBaller
