Roenis Elias Nets Back-To-Back Saves For Mariners
6 years agoSeattle Mariners reliever Roenis Elias got the call once again Friday night to close out the team's 5-3 lead. He didn't manage a strikeout, but he did retire the Angels quietly with only giving up a two-out single. The save gives Elias four on the season and two in back-to-back nights although it was Anthony Swarzak who worked the higher leverage situation in Thursday night's game. Elias has given up four earned runs in 13.2 IP on the year with 10 strikeouts, so he's far from an elite bullpen weapon, but the fact that he's getting save chances makes him worth rostering in deep leagues. Swarzak will get his opportunities as well being the club's most effective right-hander who's struck out 10 in 6.1 IP. This closing situation is one of the messier and unpredictable ones in baseball, but Elias is the lesser-owned of the two and has gotten the call lately making him the arm to ride for now.
