Robinson Chirinos Making Push To Be Starting Catcher
6 years agoHouston Astros catcher Robinson Chirinos is making a push to earn the majority of at-bats from behind the plate to start the season, hitting .345 in 14 spring games with two home runs and three doubles. The Astros appear intent on using a timeshare behind the plate this season and Chirinos currently has the inside edge. The 34-year-old catcher is a career .233 hitter but teammate Max Stassi failed to emerge as an everyday option last season. Enter Chirinos, who could eat up a majority of the at-bats out of the gate once the season starts. Not a lot can be expected from a fantasy perspective from Chirinos other than the promise of early playing time to start the 2019 season.
