An MRI exam on Milwaukee Brewers rookie left-hander Robert Gasser's elbow came back negative for any structural damage, and manager Pat Murphy described Gasser's injury as tightness and soreness. "There's a possibility he could miss some time. But from the first MRI, I guess it looks pretty normal," Murphy said. The Brewers aren't going to rush their No. 4 prospect, per MLB Pipeline, especially considering the fact that he started the season late in 2024 due to an injury. The 25-year-old southpaw is most likely headed for a trip to the injured list and will miss at least two weeks of action. The former second-round pick of the San Diego Padres in 2021 out of Houston has looked pretty good in his first five big-league starts, going 2-0 with a 2.57 ERA and 1.04 WHIP with only one walk and 16 strikeouts in 28 innings pitched.--Keith Hernandez - RotoBaller

According to Todd Rosiak of the Milwaukee Journal Sentinel, Brewers pitching prospect Robert Gasser (elbow) was placed on the 60-day injured list. This transaction opened a roster spot for Tyler Alexander to officially sign with the Brewers. However, Rosiak noted that the sixth-ranked prospect in the Milwaukee system is targeting a late August or early September return. Gasser underwent Tommy John surgery last July but remains on track to return to the mound later in the season. The southpaw was able to make his first five MLB starts before the surgery. Across this brief 28-inning stint, Gasser held a 2.57 ERA with a 1.04 WHIP. The left-hander tallied just 16 punchouts but showed elite command with a near-perfect 0.9 percent walk rate. Gasser could be a candidate to rejoin the rotation in the back half of the season.--Andy Smith - RotoBaller

Milwaukee Brewers left-handed pitching prospect Robert Gasser (elbow) underwent "regular" Tommy John surgery on Wednesday, which will lengthen his recovery period, according to general manager Matt Arnold. An internal-brace procedure would have shortened Gasser's recovery period. The 25-year-old southpaw will miss the rest of this year and probably most, if not all, of the 2025 campaign as he recovers. It's a tough break, as Gasser looked pretty impressive in his major-league debut for the Brew Crew this year before injuring his left elbow. The team's No. 4 prospect, per MLB Pipeline, went 2-0 with a 2.57 ERA and 1.04 WHIP with 16 strikeouts and just one walk in 28 innings over his first five MLB starts. He can obviously be dropped in any redraft formats, but Gasser's upside makes him worth stashing in deep dynasty/keeper leagues.--Keith Hernandez - RotoBaller

Milwaukee Brewers left-handed pitching prospect Robert Gasser (elbow) has elected to have season-ending surgery on his left elbow. Gasser is looking at being out at least the next 12 months, although it's unclear at this time exactly what type of surgery he'll be having. Dr. Keith Meister will perform the procedure on Monday in Dallas, Texas. The 25-year-old rookie southpaw will need surgery to fix UCL damage in his elbow and will miss the rest of this year and most likely at least half of the 2025 campaign as a result. The team's No. 4 prospect, per MLB Pipeline, made his first five big-league starts in 2024 before his injury and looked good, going 2-0 with a 2.57 ERA and 1.04 WHIP with 16 strikeouts and just one walk over 28 innings pitched. The left-hander's upside makes him worth stashing, but only in dynasty/keeper leagues.--Keith Hernandez - RotoBaller

Milwaukee Brewers manager Pat Murphy isn't expecting left-handed pitching prospect Robert Gasser (elbow) to be able to return this year as he prepares to receive a third opinion on his left flexor strain. It's a tough break for a team that has already lost Brandon Woodruff and Wade Miley to season-ending injuries. Gasser, the team's No. 4 prospect per MLB Pipeline, had gone 2-0 with a 2.57 ERA in his first five major-league starts after missing the end of spring training with bone spurs in his throwing elbow. The 25-year-old southpaw last pitched on June 1 and reported tightness and soreness the next day. One doctor has already recommended reconstruction surgery, which would keep Gasser out the rest of this year and most likely at least half of the 2025 campaign. Gasser deserves to be stashed in dynasty/keeper leagues, but managers in redraft formats can probably cut bait at this point.--Keith Hernandez - RotoBaller
