Robbie Ray Carrying 5.55 ERA In May
3 years agoSeattle Mariners starting pitcher Robbie Ray has been underwhelming to say the least in the follow-up to his 2021 AL Cy Young award-winning season. Over nine starts on the year, he's gone 4-4 with a 4.77 ERA and a 1.19 WHIP. We've seen his strikeout rate decrease from 32.1% last year to 25.8% this year while his walk rate has increased from 6.7% last year to 8.9% this year. Ray's been better at inducing strikeouts so far in May than he was in April. He's averaging 11.8 K/9 over four starts this month, up from 7.7 across five starts last month. However, his ERA has moved in the wrong direction as he pitched to a 4.15 ERA in April and he has a 5.55 ERA so far in May. He'll be making his final start of the month on Wednesday in a favorable matchup against the Oakland Athletics.
