Robbie Erlin Makes Bid For 2019 Starting Gig
6 years agoSan Diego Padres starter Robbie Erlin allowed two runs (one earned) in five innings Tuesday against the San Francisco Giants. Erlin surrendered four hits, no walks and fanned four. Having mostly worked out of the bullpen in 2018, Erlin posted a 5.11 ERA in 10 starts since August. With his final appearance in the books, Erlin will seek to win a starting job for the Padres heading into 2019. Competition is expected to be fierce, with no current starter a lock for a rotation slot and the Padres looking to bring in an outsider via trade or free agency. Erlin, a 27-year-old left-hander, offers excellent control with a 1.64 career BB/9 but possesses middling stuff that has yet to consistently fool hitters. He will be well-off fantasy draft boards next season.
