Rishard Matthews Leaves Team
6 years agoUpdating a previous report, Tennessee Titans wide receiver Rishard Matthews is unhappy with his role in the offense and has left the team. His future in the organization is uncertain. Matthews missed the offseason program with an Achilles issue and then had a torn meniscus early in training camp that held him back. He has just three catches for 11 yards in the first three games. “I’ve been the leading receiver for two years,” Matthews continued. “Then all of a sudden I’m barely playing and not even starting. Using my injury as the scapegoat. Look at number of snaps and targets.” Matthews is expected to ask for a release. He caught 53 passes for 795 yards and four touchdowns in 2017 after going for 65 catches, 945 yards and nine touchdowns in 2016. With Matthews now out of the picture, the Titans will lean on receivers Corey Davis, Taywan Taylor and Tajae Sharpe. Darius Jennings and Nick Williams will vie for the fourth and fifth spots. Davis is really the only wideout on this team worth consideration for a starting spot, and even then it's a WR4/flex spot with quarterback Marcus Mariota (elbow) playing at less than 100 percent. If you hadn't done so already, Matthews needs to be dropped in all leagues.
