Riley Greene Not Starting On Wednesday
3 years agoDetroit Tigers outfielder Riley Greene isn't in the team's lineup on Wednesday for a matchup with the Los Angeles Angels and left-handed starter Patrick Sandoval. Greene is hitting .254 with a .315 on-base percentage, five home runs, and a stolen base in 311 plate appearances this season. Instead, it'll be Willi Castro starting in center field and hitting leadoff. Castro is batting .245 this season with a .290 on-base percentage, six home runs, and seven stolen bases in 352 plate appearances for Detroit. Fantasy managers in search of streaming options are probably best off looking elsewhere.

Riley Greene Expected To See Time In Center Field
3 weeks agoDetroit Tigers outfielder Riley Greene could see more opportunities in center field at the start of the season. Last season, Greene made most of his starts in left field but did occasionally get the nod in center. However, due to the numerous injuries in the Detroit outfield, Greene may shift to a permanent role in center field. Parker Meadows (arm) is in danger of missing Opening Day and Matt Vierling (shoulder) and Wenceel Perez (back) are currently sidelined. Across a career-high 137 contests last summer, Greene posted a .262/.348/.479 slash line with 27 doubles and 24 long balls. He generated an elite .353 xwOBA and a .477 xSLG. He drew walks at a solid 11.0 percent rate and generated hard hits at a 47.1 percent rate. If the 24-year-old were to shift to center field, he could be in line to see a career-high in plate appearances, especially if Detroit does not have many proven healthy options behind him on the roster.

Riley Greene Hopes To Improve Availability
2 months agoAccording to Jason Beck of MLB.com, Detroit Tigers outfielder Riley Greene emphasized improving his diet and exercise plan during the offseason to increase his playing time in the upcoming season. Last season, Greene was able to play in a career-high 137 contests, but he has his eye on an even more significant workload in 2025. This was his first season surpassing the 100-game mark. The 24-year-old's new offseason plan hopefully ensures his body is able to handle a full 162-game season. Last summer, Greene held a .262/.348/.479 slash line and tallied a career-best 24 long balls. Under the hood, he generated a strong .353 xwOBA and a .477 xSLG, which placed him in the 88th and 89th percentile, respectively. He also showed a strong eye at the plate and drew walks at an 11.0 percent rate. Fantasy managers should expect Greene to see most of his time in left field with occasional starts as the designated hitter.

Riley Greene Records Multi-Hit Game As Tigers Clinch Postseason Berth
6 months agoDetroit Tigers outfielder Riley Greene had a solid two-hit game and recorded an RBI on Friday in the Tigers' 4-1 win over the Chicago White Sox. Greene hit an RBI double in the bottom of the seventh to help the Tigers advance to the postseason for the first time since 2014. Greene increased his OPS to .836 on the season and now has 74 RBI. The lefty will be an important piece of Detroit's lineup as they are 73-60 when Greene is in the starting lineup. Greene battled hamstring issues earlier in the 2024 season as helped the Tigers' impressive playoff push take off almost as soon as he returned to the lineup in mid-August. As the Tigers wait to see who they will face it may be wise for Detroit to rest Greene on either Saturday or Sunday to preserve his health for the wild card series.

Riley Greene Keeps On Mashing
7 months agoDetroit Tigers outfielder Riley Greene continued his breakout campaign on Sunday, bashing his 22nd and 23rd homers to lead the Tigers to a 4-2 win over the Baltimore Orioles. Greene finished the day 2-for-4 with the two homers, two runs scored, and three RBI. While the 23-year-old has been slightly inconsistent month-to-month, his overall stat line is very good. He has a .265/.354/.494 slash line with 23 homers, 76 runs scored, and 69 RBI in 464 at-bats. He is looking like a four-category contributor heading into next season and should be taken as a solid second outfielder in fantasy.
