5 years agoAnaheim Ducks winger Rickard Rakell figured into each of his team's three goals in a 4-3 shootout defeat of the New York Rangers on Saturday, collecting three assists in the victory. The 26-year-old banked two of his three helpers on the man advantage and also added three shots and five hits in 21:18 of ice time. After registering just eight points in 14 October games, Rakell has really picked up his play since November 1st - finding the scoresheet with regularity with his 16 points (six goals, 10 assists) in 19 games since. While that kind of point production is respectable at the least, the Swedish native adds value in fantasy hockey with his added strong peripherals, as showcased by his plus-six rating, 95 shots on goal and 41 hits in 33 games. Rakell is a top-100 asset in most fantasy formats and should be active in lineups when his Ducks take on the Flyers up next on Tuesday.--Chase Davis - RotoBaller

1 year agoPittsburgh Penguins forward Rickard Rakell (upper body) was activated off injured reserve for Monday's game against the Minnesota Wild. It was Rakell's first game since November 19, as he missed 12 games with the injury. The 30-year-old was put in a prime position Monday, as he skated on the first line with Sidney Crosby and Jake Guentzel while seeing time on the second powerplay unit. Unfortunately, he did not take advantage of it tonight, registering just two shots on goal in the contest. If he continues to see this kind of deployment the points should come, and he is a solid waiver wire option right now.--Matt Garon - RotoBaller

1 year agoPittsburgh Penguins winger Rickard Rakell (upper body) won't return Saturday against the Toronto Maple Leafs after it originally appeared he would. Rakell has missed 11 games with an upper-body injury suffered November 19. After a brilliant campaign last year, Rakell has put up just four assists in 17 games so far this year. When he does return, he will likely get a chance to turn things around as part of the top line with Sidney Crosby and Jake Guentzel and get time on the top powerplay unit. He should be added in shallow and standard leagues where he was dropped to the waiver wire as he has the chance to be a solid contributor in both points and category leagues.--Matt Garon - RotoBaller

1 year agoPittsburgh Penguins winger Rickard Rakell has been ruled out long-term with an upper-body injury. Rakell has struggled to perform well all season and must now patiently wait for his opportunity to return to action. He has no goals in 17 games and only four assists. Rakell's form has dropped massively, as he enjoyed a solid 60-point campaign in 2022-23. Radim Zohorna, who's impressed in limited action so far, might land in Pittsburgh's top six following Rakell's injury, with Drew O'Connor another candidate to move up in the lineup.--Taavi Pailk - RotoBaller

2 years agoPittsburgh Penguins right wing Rickard Rakell scored two goals in Sunday's 4-2 victory against the Flyers. Rakell accounted for both goals by the Penguins in the first period of the game, while the second goal came on the power play with assists from centers Sidney Crosby and Evgeni Malkin. Rakell is having his most productive season since he was a member of the Ducks during the 2017-18 campaign, with totals of 27 goals and 56 points while playing on the Penguins top line with center Sidney Crosby and left wing Jake Guentzel.--Denis Vondrus - RotoBaller
