Rhys Hoskins Does Not Receive Qualifying Offer
1 year agoPhiladelphia Phillies first baseman Rhys Hoskins (knee) was not tendered a qualifying offer from the club and is set to become a free agent. However, the 30-year-old could return to the club on a lesser deal than the one-year, $20.325 million value of the qualifying offer after he missed the entire 2023 season following an ACL injury suffered in a spring training game against the Detroit Tigers. Complicating matters, however, is whether or not Bryce Harper is able to return to the outfield after he took over at first base following his return from Tommy John surgery in May. Hoskins surely would have received a qualifying offer had he not missed the entire 2023 season, as he hit .246 with 30 home runs and a .794 OPS in the 2022 season while he has clubbed at least 27 home runs in each of the last four non-COVID seasons, including 27 long balls in just 107 games in the 2021 campaign.
