9 months agoAtlanta Braves right-hander Reynaldo Lopez is being stretched out to start this spring but could end up back in the bullpen, where he's been more successful and where he blew the doors off some notable Braves hitters with his 100 mph fastball last year when he was with the Chicago White Sox. It would be a surprise if the 30-year-old opened the 2024 season in Atlanta's starting rotation. Lopez had the first six saves of his major-league career in 2023 with the White Sox and Los Angeles Angels, also adding a 3.27 ERA and 1.27 WHIP with 34 walks and 83 strikeouts in 66 relief innings. He figures to once again operate in a setup role, but his 97 career starts in eight big-league seasons will give Atlanta some rotation depth in case they have to deal with a plethora of injuries again. Lopez had 22 holds as well in 2023, so he should be a fine target in holds leagues on a much better Braves team.--Keith Hernandez - RotoBaller
