Reese McGuire Pops Spring Homer
5 years agoToronto Blue Jays catcher Reese McGuire slugged his first long ball of the spring off Twins right-hander Randy Dobnak on Thursday. He has a good chance at cracking the team's Opening Day roster if he can beat out veteran Caleb Joseph for the backup job, and he could even become the starter if Danny Jansen continues to struggle at the dish. McGuire slashed a cool .299/.346/.526 in 105 PA for the Jays last season, but doesn't offer much power for fantasy purposes. The 24-year-old found himself in hot water earlier in camp after exposing himself inside his car while in a parking lot and will appear in court in March to settle the charge. He likely won't contribute much fantasy value outside of AL-only formats this season.

Reese McGuire Suffers Left Thumb Contusion
1 year agoBoston Red Sox catcher Reese McGuire (thumb) exited Tuesday's matchup with the Tampa Bay Rays on Tuesday with an apparent left thumb contusion, Ian Browne of MLB.com reports. The 28-year-old is hitting .271 at the dish but with just one homer, 14 runs, 16 RBI, and a single stolen base over 70 games. It's unclear how serious the issue is right now, though whatever happens, Connor Wong will continue to get the majority of reps behind the plate, and McGuire remains irrelevant in all formats.

Reese McGuire Will Be Activated This Week
2 years agoBoston Red Sox backstop Reese McGuire (oblique) has completed his rehab assignment and is ready to rejoin the big league club either Tuesday or Wednesday, according to MLB.com. The 28-year-old has been out of action since landing on the injured list with a right oblique strain on June 22. Reese McGuire Eyeing Rehab Assignment Next Week
2 years agoThe target date for Boston Red Sox catcher Reese McGuire (oblique) to begin a minor-league rehab assignment is around next Tuesday, July 25. McGuire has been slowly recovering from a right-oblique strain that he suffered on June 21 against the Minnesota Twins, but he was able to resume baseball activities on July 6. In any event, he's getting close to returning to backup duties behind Connor Wong in Boston. At the moment, Jorge Alfaro is serving as the Red Sox's backup backstop. McGuire will return to a .267/.313/.352 slash line with no home runs, nine doubles, 11 RBI and 11 runs scored in 116 trips to the plate over 40 games in his first full season in Beantown.

Reese McGuire Not Ready To Return
2 years agoBoston Red Sox catcher Reese McGuire (oblique) resumed baseball activities on July 6 after initially being slow to recover from a right-oblique strain that he suffered taking a swing on June 21 against the Minnesota Twins. Oblique injuries usually take a minimum of two to three weeks to heal, but McGuire's is taking longer. His absence led the Red Sox to sign Jorge Alfaro to a major-league deal on July 6. Whenever the 28-year-old backstop is finally ready to return, he'll rejoin Boston's roster as a backup catcher. He has minimal fantasy appeal in that role and was hitting .267 (28-for-105) with no home runs, nine doubles, 11 RBI and 11 runs scored in 116 plate appearances over 40 games played.
