Reds Sign Austin Romine, Alan Busenitz
2 years agoThe Cincinnati Reds signed free-agent catcher Austin Romine and right-hander Alan Busenitz to minor-league deals on Tuesday that include invitations to major-league spring training. Romine, an 11-year veteran, hit just .155/.187/.248 with three home runs, nine RBI and 10 runs scored in 51 games with the Los Angeles Angels, St. Louis Cardinals and Reds in 2022. The 34-year-old backstop will provide organizational depth with a career slash line of .230/.268/.348 in 484 games. Busenitz, a 32-year-old right-handed reliever hasn't appeared in the majors since 2018. In his two years with the Minnesota Twins, he had a 4.58 ERA (5.49 FIP), 1.44 WHIP and 49 strikeouts in 57 innings over 51 relief appearances. He pitched much better in Japan the last four years, but Busenitz will strictly be organizational relief depth.
