Reds Closing Job Amir Garrett's To Lose?
Amir Garrett thinks the 2021 closer job is "mine to lose" after the team traded former closer Raisel Iglesias to the Angels last week. The 28-year-old intends to fill the ninth-inning role, and manager David Bell said that Garrett will be a candidate, along with Lucas Sims and Tejay Antone. Garrett was 1-0 with a 2.45 ERA in 21 games last year and left-handers batted just .043 with 12 strikeouts against him in 23 at-bats. Righties hit .231 with 14 K's in 39 at-bats. He's been a reliever the last three years and has a 3.65 ERA in 158 career relief outings. "It's time to go to the next level. I want to be a lockdown closer," Garrett said. Despite having only one career save, Garrett is probably the favorite for the job, but a competition this spring will decide the winner.
