Red Sox Won't Have A Set Closer
3 years agoBoston Red Sox manager Alex Cora said he won't have a set closer to start the season, but he would like right-hander Matt Barnes to pitch himself back into the ninth-inning role. Barnes' fastball velocity was down in camp, and the team believes they discovered a mechanical flaw that led to the drop in velocity. If the 31-year-old can get that fixed and produce good results, it might not be long until he's trusted as the team's go-to closer. Until then, though, he could be sharing closing duties with Jake Diekman, Garrett Whitlock and Hansel Robles, who has plenty of closing experience himself. But fantasy managers looking for a closer should speculate on Barnes first and foremost.
