Red Sox View Brandon Workman As Their Closer
5 years agoBoston Red Sox manager Ron Roenicke believes that relief pitcher Brandon Workman will be the team's closer entering the regular season, barring something unforeseen. “I think with what he did last year, he deserves that shot to be the closer,” Roenicke said. Workman became Boston's closer late in the year in 2019, posting a stellar 1.88 ERA with 104 strikeouts and 16 saves in 71 2/3 innings. Matt Barnes, Ryan Brasier and Marcus Walden all rotated in the late innings early last season, but none of them were as effective as Workman by season's end. There will be room for roles to change, but Workman gets the nod to at least start the season. That will make him a nice flier in the later rounds for those looking for saves.
