Red Sox Acquire Adam Ottavino From Yankees
4 years agoThe Boston Red Sox acquired right-handed reliever Adam Ottavino and right-hander Frank German from the New York Yankees on Monday, according to a source. The Red Sox will pick up all of the $11 million owed to Ottavino. The 10-year veteran has a 3.53 career ERA but posted a 5.89 mark in 18 1/3 innings last season in the Bronx. The last trade between Boston and New York came in 2014 when New York sent Kelly Johnson to Boston in exchange for Stephen Drew. German was listed by MLB Pipeline as the Yankees No. 24 prospect. The 35-year-old Ottavino had a 1.90 ERA, 1.31 WHIP and 11.9 K/9 in 66 1/3 innings over 73 appearances for the Yankees in 2019 and should be the primary setup man to closer Matt Barnes in Boston. Ottavino has only 19 career saves, but he should be useful in leagues that count holds.
