5 years agoSeattle Seahawks running back Rashaad Penny looks to be lost for the season after suffering a knee injury in Sunday night's loss to the Rams. Head coach Pete Carroll told the media that Penny sprained his ACL at the end of his first play of the night, and while the team doesn't know how serious it is just yet, Carroll ominously described it as "significant." Penny had just started to live up to his billing, stepping up huge in two straight games, but this injury will be yet another setback for the young running back. With Seattle almost guaranteed a playoff spot, perhaps there's a chance the youngster could come back for some postseason football, but it depends on what the team finds out in the next few days.--Billy Stonick - RotoBaller

11 months agoFree-agent running back Rashaad Penny plans to sign an undisclosed deal with the Carolina Panthers, according to a source. The former first-round pick will reunite with head coach Dave Canales from their time together with the Seattle Seahawks. Penny will likely officially sign after the team's rookie minicamp, which wraps up on May 12. The 28-year-old from San Diego State was the 27th overall pick in 2018. Penny spent the first five years of his career in Seattle, displaying home run-hitting ability on the ground but struggling to stay healthy, appearing in just 42 games (11 starts). He played in just three games with the Eagles in 2023 and had only 11 carries for 33 yards. Penny will be joining another crowded backfield in Carolina that already consists of Chuba Hubbard, Miles Sanders and rookie Jonathon Brooks, so he's not going to be on the fantasy radar.--Keith Hernandez - RotoBaller

12 months agoThe Seattle Seahawks reportedly visited with unrestricted free-agent running back Rashaad Penny on Wednesday. Seattle is pretty familiar with Penny after taking him with the 27th overall pick in the 2018 draft out of San Diego State. The 28-year-old flashed moments of brilliance in the first five seasons with the Seahawks but just was never able to stay healthy enough to stay on the field for long stretches. Penny averaged 5.7 yards per carry with 1,918 rushing yards and 13 touchdowns on 337 carries in Seattle while also catching 27 passes for 222 yards and another score. He had his smallest role yet with the Philadelphia Eagles in 2023, carrying the ball 11 times for 33 yards in three regular-season games. A move back to Seattle would have Penny serving as backfield depth behind Kenneth Walker III and Zach Charbonnet.--Keith Hernandez - RotoBaller

1 year agoPhiladelphia Eagles running back Rashaad Penny (coach's decision) and free safety Reed Blankenship (groin) are inactive for Monday night's wild-card playoff game against the Tampa Bay Buccaneers. Penny was an interesting pickup for the Eagles in the offseason, but due to their crowded backfield, the 27-year-old was a complete non-factor in his first year with the team and finished the regular season with just 11 rushing attempts for 33 yards while catching one pass for a five-yard gain in three games played. He was active in the Week 18 regular season finale against the New York Giants, but the last time before that he was active was in Week 9. Blankenship was injured last week and didn't practice at all during the week. The 24-year-old's absence is even more bad news for an Eagles defense that collapsed at the tail end of the regular season.--Keith Hernandez - RotoBaller

1 year agoPhiladelphia Eagles running back Rashaad Penny (coach's decision) is a healthy scratch for Sunday's game against the San Francisco 49ers. Just months after signing a contract with Philadelphia, the ex-Seahawks has been relegated to the No. 4 running back role. The 27-year-old has logged offensive snaps in just two games this season, rushing five times for 17 yards on the ground.--Andersen Pickard - RotoBaller
