Rafael Montero Locks Down Seventh Save
4 years agoIn a 6-5 extra-innings win over the Houston Astros, Texas Rangers reliever Rafael Montero entered the game of the bottom of the tenth to earn his seventh save of the season. His team scored two runs in the top of the 10th to give him a 6-4 cushion. Montero allowed a Michael Brantley single to score Jose Altuve, but it was unearned because of the new extra-innings rules. The reliever then got Yuli Gurriel to ground into a double play before a Kyle Tucker fly out to end the game. Montero has been immaculate this season outside of a San Diego grand slam and has been a great pick up for some saves and ratios with 11 strikeouts in 9 2/3 innings. If he were on a better team, he would have a chance at more saves, but he stayed put at the deadline and will close out Texas' games for the remainder of 2020.
