Rafael Devers Hits Two-Run Home Run
4 years agoBoston Red Sox third baseman Rafael Devers hit a two-run home run on Tuesday against the Rays, a great sign for a star looking for a bounce-back season. After a breakout 2019 season, Devers' production fell off considerably in the shortened 2020 season. His average and OPS fell by 38 points and 113 points, respectively, and his strikeout rate rose by 10 points. There are, however, reasons to believe Devers will rebound in 2021. Devers' exit velocity was actually higher in 2020 than the year prior, and he finished strong, slashing .318/.365/.589 over his final 26 games. It's fair to wonder if Devers will ever repeat the magic of his 2019 season, but he should be at least a tier-2 third baseman.
