3 months agoSt. Louis Cardinals starting pitching prospect Quinn Mathews was sharp in his latest outing on Sunday evening as he logged five innings of one-run ball. He allowed just two hits, two free passes, and six punchouts. Across his past four starts, the southpaw has held a stellar 1.69 ERA, 0.94 WHIP, and a 7:31 BB:K ratio. Since moving up to Double-A Springfield in late June, Mathews has carried a solid 3.11 ERA, 1.12 WHIP, and a 14:47 BB:K ratio through his first 37 innings of work. Earlier this summer, at High-A, the number-two ranked prospect in St. Louis on MLB.com boasted a 2.68 ERA and a 0.76 WHIP through 43 frames. Mathews has shot up prospect rankings all summer and should contend for a major league debut next season.
