Quinn Mathews Sharp In First Double-A Start
5 months agoSt. Louis Cardinals starting pitching prospect Quinn Mathews looked quite sharp in his Double-A debut as he tossed 5 1/3 innings of two-run ball (both unearned) with just one hit, three walks, and three punchouts. Mathews has been one of the best young arms in the minor leagues this season as he posted a stellar 2.68 ERA, 0.76 WHIP, and 9:58 BB:K through 43 2/3 innings at High-A earlier this summer. While his strikeout numbers were a bit low in his first look at Double-A, dynasty managers should not need to worry. The former fourth-round selection from Stanford has been one of the biggest risers on prospect rankings this season and could reach the major leagues as soon as next year due to how well he has produced this season. The 23-year-old southpaw remains a must-stash in dynasty formats.
