Pirates Sign Heath Hembree
3 years agoThe Pittsburgh Pirates announced on Tuesday that they signed free-agent relief pitcher Heath Hembree to an undisclosed one-year deal. Hembree spent the 2021 season pitching for the New York Mets and Cincinnati Reds, posting a 5.59 ERA and 1.19 WHIP with nine saves in 58 innings over 60 relief appearances. The 33-year-old had a bit of bad luck (4.31 FIP), but he's not likely to be much of a fantasy asset in Pittsburgh, where he's projected to be a setup man ahead of co-closers David Bednar and Chris Stratton. Hembree might be one to look at in deep holds leagues, but he doesn't have a ton of upside with a 4.19 career ERA and 11 saves in nine major league seasons.
