5 years agoThe Pittsburgh Pirates hired Derek Shelton as their new manager on Wednesday. It will be his first managerial job after he spent the last two seasons as the Twins bench coach. Shelton was also a quality control coach for the Blue Jays in 2017 and was the hitting coach for the Rays for seven years. He broke into the majors as a hitting coach for the Indians from 2005 to 2009. Shelton will be replacing Clint Hurdle and will try to lead a rebuilding Pirates squad back to contention after their worst season (69-93) since 2010.--Keith Hernandez - RotoBaller
