Pierce Johnson Blows First Save In 2023
1 year agoColorado Rockies reliever Pierce Johnson (0-2) allowed two runs on two hits and a walk while striking out one over 2/3 of an inning during Thursday's 5-4 loss to the Arizona Diamondbacks. He was tagged with the loss and charged with his first blown save of the season. The 32-year-old surrendered a double to Ketel Marte and allowed a walk-off base hit to Corbin Carroll. Johnson owns a 6.85 ERA, 1.88 WHIP, and 30 strikeouts over 22 1/3 innings. Johnson has struggled recently and could be losing his grip on Colorado's closer gig. The Rockies could turn to Daniel Bard or Brad Hand for future save opportunities if Johnson continues to struggle.
