Phillies Select Andrew Painter In First Round Of Draft
3 years agoThe Philadelphia Phillies selected high school pitcher Andrew Painter with the 13th overall selection in the 2021 amateur draft. He was ranked by Rotoballer as the 16th-best prospect available. Painter has an excellent pitcher's frame and stands 6-foot-6. He has a solid fastball, good changeup and two developing breaking balls with average-or-better potential. He also has above-average command for his age. The Phillies took a prep pitcher with their first-round selection in 2020, and Mick Abel has quickly become their second-best prospect behind another hurler in Spencer Howard. Painter could slot in third.
