Phillies Hire Joe Girardi As Manager
5 years agoThe Philadelphia Phillies hired Joe Girardi as their new manager on Thursday, according to a source. Girardi is replacing Gabe Kapler, who was fired after just two seasons and a middling record in Philly. The Phillies signed Bryce Harper last offseason but missed the playoffs and went 81-81 for fourth place in the National League East. Girardi, 55, managed the Yankees for 10 years from 2008 to 2017 and won the World Series in 2009. He went 910-710 over that span and is a great hire for a Phillies team that should be competitive next season if their pitching can hold up.
