Phillies Finalizing Deal With Dave Dombrowski
4 years agoThe Philadelphia Phillies are finalizing a deal with Dave Dombrowski to take over as their president of baseball operations on Thursday, according to sources. The Phillies signed outfielder Bryce Harper and traded for catcher J.T. Realmuto before the 2019 season, but the team has since finished fourth and third in the National League East. Philly's farm system is considered to be in the bottom third of baseball and the team claims they lost nearly $150 million during the coronavirus pandemic in 2020 without fans. The 64-year-old Dombrowski won a ring with the Red Sox in 2018 but was fired a year later. He began his career with the White Sox in 1978 and has spent time as the general manager of the Expos, Marlins and Tigers. Dombrowski won a World Series with the Marlins in 1997 and helped the Tigers to two World Series appearances.
