Phillies Demote Hoby Milner
Hoby Milner has been demoted from the Philadelphia Phillies to Triple-A Lehigh Valley. The 27-year-old was beginning his second season in the majors after appearing in 37 games last year. After allowing a home run in his first appearance of the season, Milner made eight consecutive appearances without allowing a run, allowing just three hits along the way. He would always appear for less than an inning of work, however, resulting in just 4 2/3 innings in 10 appearances this year. A corresponding move to fill the empty spot on the major league roster will be made tomorrow.

Hoby Milner Expects To Begin Rehab Assignment On Friday
Hoby Milner (shoulder) said he's experienced similar left-shoulder impingements at least a half-dozen times before, including earlier this year, and that they usually clear up with a modest rest period. Milner expects to begin a minor-league rehab assignment on Friday with High-A Wisconsin, and if that goes well, he would pitch again the following Sunday. The 33-year-old southpaw reliever could rejoin Milwaukee's bullpen early next week if he doesn't suffer any setbacks in two rehab appearances this weekend. He has been away from the team since the middle of the month due to his shoulder ailment. The former seventh-round pick of the Philadelphia Phillies in 2012 out of Texas has a bloated 4.92 ERA and 1.32 WHIP with a save and 52 K's in 53 innings over 51 outings (one start) in his fourth year with the Brew Crew.

Hoby Milner Serving As Opener
Hoby Milner will serve as the opener for Tuesday's game against the Texas Rangers. The veteran southpaw will make his first start after 269 career relief appearances dating back to his MLB debut in 2017. The expectation is that Milner will only pitch the first inning or two. After that, Bryse Wilson figures to pitch a bulk of the innings on Tuesday. Milner won't be worth using as a streaming option but him getting his first start is pretty neat.

Hoby Milner Avoids Arbitration With Brewers
Hoby Milner and the Milwaukee Brewers avoided salary arbitration on Wednesday by settling at $2.05 million for the upcoming 2024 season, according to a source. Milner had the best season of his career in 2023, going 2-1 with a 1.82 ERA (3.13 FIP), 0.96 WHIP, 13 walks and 59 strikeouts in 64 1/3 relief innings over 73 appearances out of Milwaukee's bullpen. The 32-year-old will return in 2024 as a left-handed setup man in front of closer Devin Williams in the late innings. In seven years in the big leagues, Milner has recorded a 3.53 ERA (4.13 FIP) and 1.24 WHIP with no saves and a 22.7 percent strikeout rate in 206 1/3 innings, all coming in relief.
