Phillies Acquire Jean Segura From Seattle
6 years agoThe Philadelphia Phillies acquired shortstop Jean Segura and relief pitchers Juan Nicasio and James Pazos from the Seattle Mariners on Monday in exchange for first baseman Carlos Santana and shortstop J.P. Crawford. Segura is a top-of-the-order hitter that can do it all at the plate and represents a big upgrade over Crawford. He'll remain one of the more attractive fantasy shortstops in 2019. Nicasio struggled in 2018, going 1-6 with a 6.00 ERA and 1.38 WHIP, but he struck out 53 in 42 innings. Both he and the left-handed Pazos will boost Philly's setup crew. With Santana out of the picture, the Phils can now move slugger Rhys Hoskins from left field to first base permanently. The Phils acquisition of Segura won't stop them from pursuing free-agent shortstop Manny Machado.
