Phil Savage Named Jets' Interim GM
1 min agoThe New York Jets named Phil Savage as their interim general manager after firing former GM Joe Douglas on Tuesday, according to a source. Savage was serving as the team's senior football adviser and was formerly the general manager of the Cleveland Browns from 2005 to 2008. Owner Woody Johnson said the Jets "will begin the process to identify a new GM immediately." Douglas signed a six-year contract when he was hired in June of 2019 and was scheduled to be a free agent after the 2024 season. The Jets went 30-64 under Douglas, with no winning seasons or playoff appearances. Douglas traded for future Hall of Fame quarterback Aaron Rodgers in April of 2023, but Rodgers tore his Achilles in Week 1 of last year and has been a big disappointment this season. With major changes coming this offseason, Rodgers isn't expected back in 2025.
