Peter Alonso Ties NL Home Run Rookie Record
5 years agoNew York Mets first baseman Peter Alonso clobbered his 39th home run Thursday night, tying the National League record for most home runs in a season by a rookie, and there's still 42 games left to play. The 24-year-old had a 5-for-5 performance, driving in six runs as the Mets prevailed, 10-8 over the Braves in Atlanta. Alonso has been an instrumental part of this club the whole way, poised to finish off a historic season with multiple broken records. After the NL rookie record, Alonso will be two home runs away from setting the club record for home runs in a season, currently 41.
