Pete Fairbanks Activated From IL Wednesday
Pete Fairbanks (shoulder) was activated from the injured list on Wednesday, according to Adam Berry of MLB.com. Fairbanks has been out since the beginning of April with a rotator cuff strain, having recorded a 3.38 ERA and two strikeouts in 2 2/3 innings of work prior to the injury. With Diego Castillo being placed on the injured list on Wednesday, Fairbanks will now be the likely candidate to take over the full time closer role in Tampa Bay. However once Castillo returns, Fairbanks will likely split save opportunities with him going forward.

Pete Fairbanks Notches Sixth Save On Sunday
Pete Fairbanks secured the 4-2 victory over the Padres on Sunday, pitching a clean ninth to record his sixth save of the season. Other than a tad too many walks, Fairbanks has been good this season, posting a 2.38 ERA, 1.32 WHIP, and a 6:10 BB:K over 11 1/3 innings pitched. The 6-foot-6 hurler has saved 48 games for the Rays over the previous two seasons, but spent time on the injured list twice last year which has been a theme throughout his career, never having pitched more than 45 1/3 innings in the majors. If he can remain healthy this year, it looks like he'd be on track to potentially set career highs in IP and saves, although he doesn't strike out nearly as many as he used to, down to a career low of 7.94 K/9 thus far in 2025.

Pete Fairbanks Picks Up Fourth Save On Thursday
Pete Fairbanks tossed a scoreless 10th inning to secure a 7-4 win over the Arizona Diamondbacks on Thursday. Fairbanks walked one and struck out one while throwing 15 pitches to pick up his fourth save in as many chances this season. The veteran closer has been a reliable reliever for the Rays this season, posting a 2-1 record, 2.89 ERA, 1.50 WHIP, and nine strikeouts over 9 1/3 innings of work. He will look to convert more save chances as the Rays open up a weekend series against the San Diego Padres starting Friday.

Pete Fairbanks Picks Up A Save On Wednesday
Pete Fairbanks got the final three outs to preserve a 5-4 win over the Los Angeles Angels on Wednesday. Fairbanks threw a scoreless ninth inning, striking out one and walking one, to convert his second save in as many chances this season. The veteran reliever has been excellent to begin the year, posting a 1-1 record, 1.80 ERA, 1.40 WHIP, and seven strikeouts in five innings of work. Fairbanks has a solid grip on the ninth-inning role for Tampa and should continue to see the bulk of the team's save chances.

Pete Fairbanks Won't Return This Season
Pete Fairbanks (lat) won't take the mound again this season, according to manager Kevin Cash. The right-hander has been sidelined since mid-August due to a lat strain. The Rays have been going with closer-by-committee while Fairbanks has been sidelined. Edwin Uceta appears to be the favorite for the final frame. He is putting together a breakout campaign with a 1.42 ERA and 53 strikeouts across 26 appearances this season. However, Uceta only has three saves to his name this season, so he's not a great fantasy asset in that aspect.
