Pete Alonso Hitless In WBC Play
2 years agoNew York Mets first baseman Pete Alonso goes into Wednesday night 0-for-5 in the World Baseball Classic for Team USA. Alonso has started one game as the designated hitter for the US, going 0-for-4 against Mexico. He had a pinch-hit appearance against Canada on Monday and came up without a hit again. The Polar Bear will get the start Wednesday vs. Colombia and will hit fifth in the lineup. Alonso is coming off a season where he hit 40 homers and drove in a league-leading 130 runs while batting .271, so nothing should be taken from this small sample size. Alonso is currently going 18.3 in drafts and should be one of the earliest first basemen off the board in drafts.
