Pete Alonso Clubs Two Homers In Season Finale
4 years agoNew York Mets first baseman Pete Alonso went 3-for-5 with two home runs and three RBI in the Mets' 15-5 brutal loss to the Nationals on Sunday in their season finale. Alonso's performance was one of the lone bright spots in an otherwise embarrassing and fitting end to the Mets' horrid 2020 season. He finished 2020 with a .231/.326/.490 line, with 16 home runs, and 35 RBI. Of note, Alonso managed to salvage what was an overall disappointing season in his final week. In his last six games of 2020, Alonso went a combined 10-for-20 (.500) with four home runs and eight RBI. As mentioned previously, it will be interesting to see whether Alonso's ADP heading into 2021 drafts takes a hit given his 2020 performance. His underlying metrics were similar to his metrics in 2019 and suggest that he should positively regress in 2021 (as he exemplified in the last six games of the season). If Alonso drops in drafts due to his down sophomore season, he could be a potential 2021 draft-day steal for managers.
