Paul Goldschmidt Gets the Start at First Base on Wednesday
5 years agoSt. Louis Cardinals first baseman Paul Goldschmidt (elbow) got the start at first base for Wednesday's split-squad Grapefruit League game against the Miami Marlins. Goldschmidt had been limited to designated hitter duties because of his elbow, but he was able to throw to all bases and was cleared to play the field on Wednesday. "Goldy" ended up getting three plate appearances, drawing a walk, getting hit by a pitch (in his elbow pad), and grounding out. Goldschmidt had a down year last season in his first year as a Cardinal, but he could bounce back and be a fantasy darling again like he was for many years in Arizona.
