10 months agoSt. Louis Cardinals first baseman Paul Goldschmidt, who will be an unrestricted free agent after the upcoming season, will need to wait until the start of the 2024 season for potential extension talks to begin. In regards to an extension for Goldschmidt, president of baseball operations John Mozeliak told reporters on Saturday"I think right now, I think everybody just wants to see how this season starts. You know, obviously, we want to get off on the right track, and then we can address things like that." It makes sense that the Cardinals would slow play this as the team struggled with a 71-91 record, which was good for last place in the NL Central. In addition to that, Goldschmidt had a down year by his lofty standards, finishing with a 268/.363/.447 batting line to go along with 25 home runs, 80 RBI, and 11 stolen bases over 593 at-bats (154 games). The veteran first baseman is fully capable of bouncing back but he is entering his age 36 season.
