Patriots Sign First-Rounder Mac Jones
4 years agoThe New England Patriots signed first-round quarterback Mac Jones to his four-year, $15.6 million rookie deal on Tuesday. Like with all first-round picks, Jones' contract will include a fifth-year option. The former Alabama star impressed the coaching staff during offseason practices in the spring and even looked better than Cam Newton some days. The Patriots are expected to have a legitimate quarterback battle between Jones and Newton in training camp. Newton is the favorite to start in Week 1 and has been more comfortable in the offense in his second year, but he'll be on a short leash if his struggles passing the football continue in 2021. As more of a pocket passer, Jones won't have a very high ceiling if he's making starts in his rookie season. He's more of a dynasty/keeper asset in his first NFL season.
